How many events has it been used for?

Fed Square has been used for many different purposes, including concerts and protests. In fact, according to the City of Melbourne website, there have been over 500 events held at Fed Square since 2002.

Events such as the Australian Grand Prix Opening Ceremony and the Carols by Candlelight concert in December are just a few of the most popular events to be held at Fed Square.

The square is also used as a car park during certain periods of time. There are currently six levels with 1,200 parking bays located underneath Fed Square accessible from nearby streets.

These levels can be used for office space or retail space if needed, but in order to use them for parking there must be no other spare parking available in Melbourne's CBD.

How often has Fed Square been a car park?

Fed Square has been a car park on many occasions throughout its history. In fact, the area was used as a car park for trade fairs, exhibitions and concerts as well as an access road for trucks and other vehicles.

This is because at one point in its history Fed Square was not owned by the City of Melbourne but rather by a private company which did not want to invest in it. The company, who sold the property to the City of Melbourne in 1998, thought that there were more profitable options for the site.

The City of Melbourne was against this use of Fed Square and fought hard to get it back under public ownership. In August 2000, they bought back Fed Square from the private company, paying $84million for it.

In 2001 all cars had been removed from Fed Square to make way for pedestrians and traffic calming measures had been introduced after complaints about congestion caused by cars entering and exiting the square.
